It was not quite right to say that we all in Sweden are dressed the same. I noticed the other day at Uppsala short film festival that there are differences. When sitting at the cinema I had a good chance to observer all the people coming in. There were mainly students in the public and they were not dressed in mainstream clothes. However the funny thing was that they were all dressed the same within the group. Almost all girls hade long hair, with the natural colour or a bit ginger (probably henna) and they had cloths that looked second hand (I like second hand, it’s just an observation). There are groups and subgroups in England to for sure, it’s just more visible in Sweden because we are a smaller population and thus less diverged.
Petra you really made my day when commenting on where in Stockholm I can find marmite etc: “… at Söderhallarna at ‘The English Shop’ - they have it all, shortbread, crumpets, marmite and so on - even the strange white sausages!” I never thought I would be so glad to hear the world crumpets again. I’ll be running to that shop first thing in the morning, so you know if I am late to work ;0) How fantastic with friends that knows everything.
By the way, Petra and I are colleagues at KIB and I don’t think I have introduced KIB to you all. This is our website where you will find a lot of useful information if you ever need to know anything in a medical topic. I am working in the building on the photo.
On Monday The Uppsala International Short Film Festival starts for the 23rd time and I am really looking forward to it.
Finally, I have noticed that men in Sweden spit a lot more on the streets than English men do, why is that I wonder?
Sorry for not having updated my blog during the last 10 days!
Ok I admit my life in Sweden is not exciting everyday, in fact not even every second day or at least every week. This week was a nice week, however. For two days I was “nursing” my turtle Sir Archibald whilst my mother was away. One evening I dined with Nicholas and one I went to see a Pedro Almodovar movie (a really good movie by the way) with Therese. If anyone of you have seen the move it would be nice to hear your opinion, in Swedish it is called Dålig uppfostran which would be the same as Bad education, I’m not sure that’s what it is called in English.
From the cd-player David Sylvian sings “September is hear again…” from Secrets of the Beehive, it perfectly fits my mood. In Sweden it really is autumn now with degrees down to 0 and darkness from 7 pm. I have started to light candles that reminds me of Christmas and I can’t imagine it was only three weeks ago that I was swimming in the sea in Brighton together with Bruno och Tobia, it feels like in another life.
Today one person greeted me back when I said “hi”. That makes it two, which is two persons that I have met on a walk that has greeted me when I greeted them first, out of 6. Turn it around and it makes 4 people that have not greeted me back! That, my friends, is strange. I often take walks at my lunch break in a small forest and to start with I out of habit greeted the persons that I met, by now I am counting them to. I found that most of the people I met just looked through me or stared at me as if I was some strange creature when I said “Hi”. Why is that?
