A bit of everything and why London shall host the 2012 Games

Hi from a Sweden in snow, snow, snow. I kind of liked it until a week ago, must have been the lack of snow during my stay in Brighton, now I have started to hate it, grrrr. The Italian world for snow is beautiful though it is “Neve”. Something else that I really dislike is the Swedish song contest (for the Eurovision song contest). It has been going on for weeks in radio, in newspapers, in commercials you name it. Thankfully at last it ended today and with a bit of luck I will not hear more about it until the Eurovision song contest. I think it is because Sweden is such a small country that there is a concentration on some events that every one knows about, everyone takes an interest in. It is still a bit like when I was small and we had only channel 1 and 2 on the Swedish TV and everyone watched the same programs.

By the way in the Guardian I read some winning reasons why London and not Paris shall host the Olympic Games 2012:

Some Parisian public toilets have glossy bras coathooks and oval mirrors. This is insufferable grandeur. London toilets are honest, decent toilets. Their mirrors are cracked, there is no paper and they smell. Just as it should be.

Paris suffers from an epidemic of small dogs. Some wear haute couture. The wise kick them until they rupture an organ.

London cab drivers are masters of conventional charm. They are avid gossips and keen surveyors of the political landscape. If you tip them, they will not swear at you.

Paris invented the concept of chic. As in “We´re chic; you´re not.”

Londoners can still drive geese and swine through Dulwich, if they pay the correct tolls. Parisians, doubtless, would kidnap, force-feed and eat the ducks.

Now, are you convinced?

Flapjacks in my local supermarket.

At last it has happened, the first flapjack has find its way in to my local supermarket Konsum (that is Coop). Guess who is happy? Flapjacks are so new and strange here so apparently it is very hard to decide where to place them in the store. That is why I, and one from the sales assistants, searched for them 15 minutes yesterday. They are constantly moving shelve. Actually it is not even a real Flapjack but an “Apple Whopper” but informed friends of mine tell me that is the new name for Ma Bakers Flapjacks. So I guess that even if this is not one of Ma Bakers best ones (not one of the Coffee & Walnut, Dark Luxury Caramel,Lemon & White or Cherry & Coconut Flapjacks) I should be grateful that at last they have come, and hopefully to stay.

By the way it is not that cold any longer, last week we had –25 C in Uppsala one morning. Now it is + - 0 C and all the nice snow are rapidly melting creating floods of water on the streets and pavements. I hope the spring will come quickly but I doubt it.

White snow and silence

Sorry, sorry, sorry there has been so much to do (to much) and Tobia has been at home from Brighton for a week, no time left for Kanelbulle vs Scone I am afraid :0( I will try to make it up during the weekend. At least I am updated on news from Brighton now and on Hot Cross Buns mmm and Marmite, makes me happy! To day we had –8 C in Uppsala and a thick layer of trickling white snow, really beautiful and soooo silent, even the cars you can not hear.
