Summer at last!

Yes! At last the sunshine has reached even the most remote spot of the world and the summer has come to Sweden. I can hardly work. I just want to go out. I have bought a green carpet for our balcony that looks like grass, and wild strawberries in a pot to place at the balcony. However, no matter how nice Uppsala is in summer I still miss the sea in Brighton. Now I am going to have a cappuccino (bad habit from Brighton) and clean the balcony.

Anyone seen a key?

Guess what? I will never ever more party! Humm, ok this is what happened last night:

I arrived in Uppsala with the last train (arriving at 00.00) after a “summer party” at work. As the train arrives at the station I start to get a creepy feeling that I have not seen my keys for a while. I empty my rucksack in the train but cannot find them. The train has stopped and I unpack the rucksack, empty my pockets and search everywhere but no they are not there. The train I arrived with was the last for the night, the last buss to Stockholm is gone as well. The only solution I can find is to pass the night walking through the streets until the morning trains starts again. It is too cold to lie down and sleep on a bench. In a very miserable state I call Tobia in Brighton to at least get some sympathy. Tobia however is content not to let me sleep rough. He urges me to phone Tomas, a friend living I Uppsala, and after some hesitancy (it is embarrassing) I finally do. Of course Tomas, as a true friend, lets me come and sleep in his flat. Thus finally, as in all good stories, even this one has a happy ending.

The national day in Sweden

I am sorry I have been a bad bloger lately and I do not even have an excuse, I will try to improve over summer.
Today is the national day in Sweden and for the first time we are celebrating it with a bank holiday. So what does the national day mean to the Swedes? To be honest to most people in Sweden not a great deal. For my part it was nice with a day of work and I “celebrated” by cleaning my flat and do some shopping (most of the shops kept open). I believe the lack of interest for the national day in Sweden amongst the Swedes is due to that we do not really have a reason for it. The day does not mark a special victory but only the day for Gustav Vasas accession to the throne year 1523, see is that really something to celebrate? By the way I bought two really nice cushion covers for my sofa to day, which made me happy!
