Jacques Derrida 1930-2004

Citat från Donner la mort (The Gift of Death, övers. David Wills):
"Death is very much that which nobody else can undergo or confront in my place. My irreplaceability is therefore conferred, delivered, 'given', one can say, by death. It is the same gift, the same source, one could say the same goodness and the same law. It is from the site of death as the place of my irreplaceability, that is, of my singularity, that I feel called to responsibility. In this sense only a mortal can be responsible."
"Like the Straussians, Derrida and his followers tend to be willfully bad readers of texts. Fortunately, their influence has already faded from the scene in both North America and Europe."

Kommentarer
"Jonas Thente, literary critic for Sweden's largest daily Dagens Nyheter, said he was putting his money on Algerian novelist, poet and filmmaker Assia Djebar, whose books deal with post-colonial identity issues.
"French philosopher-writer Jacques Derrida was also seen as a possible winner of the 10-million-kronor (1.37-million-dollar, 1.10-million-euro) prize.
"'He is one of the biggest names in post-structuralism,' Thente said. 'And Academy secretary Horace Engdahl and member Katarina Frostenson are known to be big fans of his.'"
