Stadiumpunkare sänker mitt gamla favoritskivbolag

CMJ.com: Lookout! Records, the West Coast label that launched the career of Green Day, has laid off its entire eight-person staff, leaving only its three owners to run the show. The layoffs came quickly after the decision by Grammy-darlings Green Day to wrest control of their Lookout! catalog, including 1992's breakout Kerplunk!, amid concerns of past-due royalties.

Update: rätt ska vara rätt: Coolfer: Most everybody, from Livermore to bloggers to everyday Joe Public, has refrained from blaming Green Day for the fall of Lookout! The band actively supported the label and its bands for years. In the end, business is business. Pay your bills, labels.

Kommentarer

"Green Day could have taken their records away several years ago when Lookout! first breached their contract, but they were generous enough to allow Lookout! to keep licensing the records in hopes that the label would get back on its feet. No matter how rich a band is, they shouldn't be expected to subsidize a failing label forever, especially when that label isn't doing anything particularly worthwhile." /K

Tack för kommentar, Harvey! Såg rätt snart att bilden behövde nyanseras. Har lagt till en länk i inlägget. The Smugglers har i alla fall ett kul bandnamn!
